Nordisk Film ShortCut has a full-scale film laboratory with a dedicated staff. We provide a complete range
of services from early development to delicate negative handling including processing, rushes, negative cutting, colour timing, intermediates, prints, restoration and vault storage.

Prints are screened in our own 30-seat screening theatre.

Night box for negatives
Ordinarily we are open for business: Mon to Thurs: 08.00 am to 16.30 pm, Friday 08.00 am to 16.00 pm.

In order to deliver negatives for development outside hours of business, you have to contact our service desk.

You can sign up for a digital key, which will allow you to enter anytime, night or day. We have deposit boxes, in which you can put your negatives, lock it with a key and drop the key in a closed key box. Next morning about 05.00 am all boxes are emptied and all reels are being processed.

Be aware to deliver a camera report with your negatives, to make sure that we develop your film exactly the way you want it.

Colour Timing
Nordisk Film ShortCut employs some of the best and most experienced colourtimers in Europe.
When we work with original negatives our working method is unique, as we work with “10-step rolls”.

This method means that we won’t touch the original negative until the final look are approved. A very popular method that also ensures full control over the process and many possibilities for working with a certain look of the film without spending a lot of extra time – and money.

Besides a vast experience in colourtiming of original camera negative, we are also very experienced in colourtiming of Digital Intermediate.

Sound Negatives
The audio suite uses an Albrecht LK3 digitally controlled lasercamera for optical sound negatives. The camera is equipped with Dolby Digital (SR*D)and DTS (Digital Theater Systems) sound systems.

We produce Dolby SR sound negatives (Analogue)from almost any format, DAT, AIFF-filer, WAV-filer,CD and various Perf types.

We are even able to make sound negatives from another sound negative or from a copy.

Sound Restoration
The audio suite restores sound from old films from sound negative, copy, Perf tape, 17,5mm, 35mm, 16mm, 1⁄4” etc. The main part of the sound restoration is done with our Cedar realtime computer that runs up to 4 processes simultaneously, e.g. Denoise, Decrackler, Debuzzer, and various
Comp/Lim/Eq analyses.

The Cedar is one of the most advanced tools for sound restoration. However, many films are in such a bad condition that even the Cedar can’t provide a satisfactory result.

For those films we have developed our own unique laserscanner. A tiny laser beam that moves across the sound track 96.000 per second allows us to eliminate noise and restore the sound of these films in an unheard of quality. So far the system has been developed for 35mm sound negatives, but soon it will also be available for 16mm.

Printing
Dry and wet gate printing of InterNeg. and InterPos. using both acetate and Estarbase depending on the project and the demands of the client.

Blow up: 16 to 35 mm. we send to our sister company I Stockholm.

Release printing: Our Printing facilities include both wet and dry printing, loop printing and high quality printing products aimed for premiere and festival runs.

Through manual inspection of every single copy we ensure a consistent printing and processing standard and verify that the colour and density of each print are as intended.

Screening Room
Inspection of mute copies, rushes or the finished answer print takes place in a modern theatre calibrated according to THX specifications to ensure correct evaluation of picture and sound.
